The first round of the coveted Calgary Stampede wrapped up this last week. Monday was the last chance for Pool A contestants to secure their spot in the weekend’s richest afternoon in rodeo. Several contestants embraced this challenge, and seven #CINCHteam members earned a top spot to compete at the 2016 Calgary Stampede Finals.
In the saddle bronc riding, Cort Scheer emerged the high bronc rider in Pool A with 326 pts. on four head and $15,500 in winnings. R.C. Landingham took 2nd in the bareback ridign with a total score of 337.5 on four ($11,000). Three #CINCHteam tie-down ropers will be competing at Calgary’s finals. #CINCHteam Shane Hanchey continues his winning streak in Calgary. From coming off a successful 4th of July weekend where he won the most money of any competitor in the Cowboy Christmas run (he even broke the Cowboy Christmas earnings record that was set in 2000), Hanchey took the top spot in Pool A with a combined time of 24.4 on four runs. Rhen Richard was right behind in 2nd with 44.1 seconds on four head. Clint Robinson tied foru 4th place with 15.8 seconds. Any competitors who didn’t make the top four in Pool A have another chance to compete to be among the two best in their event during the Wildcard event this Saturday. Pool B contestants will compete this Tuesday to secure a spot in the Finals.
Just south of the border in Laramie, Wyoming was the annual Laramie Jubilee Days. Bareback rider, Jessy Davis split 1st in the “Cowboy State” with an 86.5 – pt. ride on Summit Pro Rodeo’s Red Bird. Winn Ratliff came in 3rd with 85.5 pts., and J.R. Vezain followed in 4th with 85 pts. Baylor Roche earned another 1st place win for the #CINCHteam in the steer wrestling with a 3.9-second run and $1,794 payout. Earning a THIRD buckle for the #CINCHteam was team roping heeler Shay Carroll (partner Kolton Schmidt). The duo was 4.7 seconds to take the top spot in Laramie.
One state away in the beautiful Estest Park, Colorado was the 2016 Rooftop Rodeo. #CINCHteam Colby Lovell and Travis Graves tied for 3rd in the team roping with 4.5 seconds. Walt Woodard (partner Adam Rose) followed in 5th with 4.6, and Paul Eaves (partner Clay Smith) took 6th with 4.8 seconds. Barrel Racer, Trula Churchill also placed 3rd in Estes with a 17.78 second run.
